Yazd Bazaar

This collection forms the spinal column (foundation) of the old city of Yazd. Architecturally Qeisariyeh, located between Khan square and Khan school has more space order than other bazaars. It is protected by two wooden doors (gates) which have high artistic value.

The oldest section of this bazaar is called Hadji Qanbar bazaar that was in the 9th century AH. included in the Amir Chakhmaq cultural-historical complex.

Various parts of the bazaar of Yazd are as follows: Khan, Zargari (Goldsmith), Panjeh Ali, Qeisariyeh, Alaqebandi, Kashigari (tile working), Chit Sazi (chintz making), Mullah Isma’eel, Afshar, Hadji Qanbar, Mohammad Ali Khan, Jafar Khan, Sadri, Darvazeh Mehreez , Mesgari (copper smith ), and nokhod Berizi bazaar.

Bondor Abad Mosque

This mosque is at a distance of 36 kilometers from Yazd, and is located in a village named Bondor Abad. The structure of the mosque has a strong resemblance to the mosques of the 8th century AH.

This means that the mosque courtyard is in the shape of a square with an area of 11 m. x 11 m. In its eastern and western section are two long nine meters wide porches.

It is built in such a way that the end of the porches are connected to the southern dome of the mosque from both directions. At the side of the altar, there is a pulpit with thirteen steps decorated with turquoise and azure tiles.

Sheikh Ahmad Fahadan Mausoleum

This structure is the remnant of a monastery, mosque and mausoleum which is reputedly known as Sheikh Ahmad Esfanjerdy and belonged to Sheikh Ahmad Fahadan. Sheikh Fakhrodin Ahmad and his brother, Mohammad, were from Esfanjerd and were doing Shumali.

Sheikh Zeinol Abedin Ali Khamoosh Mausoleum

This mausoleum is located in the village of Nadooshan. 35 kilometers from Yazd. Sheikh Ali was one of the 6th century Gnostics and mystics (Sufis) who was martyred and his tomb became a pilgrimage site and a place for alms and charity.

A slab of stone with the dimensions of 20 x 25 centimeters on which poems and verses in the Nasta’liq script have been engraved, along with the latticed wooden box on the tomb, some endowed (book racks), an exquisite handwritten Qoran in Naskh script dating back to the 7th century AH, old fashioned lanterns hanging from the ceiling of the structure and… are among the interesting and noticeable relics of this mausoleum.

Amongst the natural features pertaining to tourism in Iran, are desert characteristics. Taking a stroll is these vast spaces, watching the wonders of the moving sands, the burning and dry salt marshes, historical monuments, brick colored buildings of simple and harsh styles, shadows of scattered villages, as well as the old ancient inns and caravansaries are charming and worth visiting for every tourist.

Two routes can be considered in the desert region of Yazd. One is the Yazd – Bafq route, running along the ancient Fahraj Mosque on the fringes of the desert, continuing till the limits of Bafq. En route are the tamarisk forests, and the beautiful Ahan Shahr Park, extending over 20 hectares which appears at the end of this route.

The other route is of Yazd – Khanaraq – Bayazeh and continues till Khoor and Biyabanek. Along which are dome-shaped sandy hills, covered by desert bushes. All through the route there are ancient and beautiful inns with arched windows and unique architecture. Out of which worth mentioning is the military castle of Bayazeh which is placed beside the beautiful gardens of Khoor Biabanak village. Another site to visit is the ancient olive tree which is over a thousand years old.

The desert areas of Yazd province can be divided into the following:
Ardakan Desert (Siyah Kooh), that lies between the two mountains of Hoosh at an elevation of 1,939 m. to the south, and Siyah Kooh at a height of 2,050 m. to the north.
Abar Kooh Desert, This is a circular area resting between two mountains which is at close proximity to Taqestan desert.

Daranjir Desert area, extending over 1,500 square kilometers, to the east of Yazd.

Other Desert: Herat and Merosat: Approximately 500 square kilometers and almost humid.
Behesht Abad: Between Anar and Rafsanjan, in a north western to southeastern direction.
Bahadoran : In southeast of Mehreez and from a north western to a south eastern direction.

Protected Wildlife Zones

The geographical and natural settings of Yazd have made it one of the most divergent wildlife areas. The Kalmand and Bahadoran protected zones, extending over an area of 25,000 hectares, Kooh Bafq, and Ariz, being 100,000 hectares, located near the desert, are examples of diverse herbaceous and animal varieties.

The unique herbal and ecological characteristics of Kalmand and Bahadoran accommodate the procreation of various beasts and birds, bustard, deer (Iranian gazelle), and Jeibir are some of the protected wild animals and birds. Moreover, the followings are the animal varieties inhabiting this areas: foxes, wolves, rabbit, tiger, hyena, goat, wild goat, and the Iranian gazelle, ram, ewe, and Jeibir inhabit the red hills zone near the Laqarah River.

This area not only has desert creepers, such as tortoise, poisonous snakes, lizard, viper and green vipers, but also birds such as partridge, dull-yellow grouse, jay and types of eagle, exist here as well.
