Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs operates the official eVisa portal. The portal describes online submission as the first stage of a visa request and says that the applicant’s purpose and circumstances determine the relevant visa type. It also explains that some people may need an interview, while some visa types or nationalities must use an embassy route.
The MFA portal states that a passport should remain valid for at least six months beyond the planned travel date. It also provides an application-status tool using the official reference number and personal details. These points are useful preparation checks—not evidence that a particular traveller will qualify.

Why a generic “Iran visa” answer is not enough
Visa rules can depend on the passport used, nationality, purpose of travel, entry point and diplomatic circumstances. Iran’s MFA portal itself warns that some applicants may be ineligible for the online route or may need embassy guidance. Its visa-waiver information can also change, so this page deliberately does not reproduce a country list that may become stale.
Visa on arrival should not be treated as a universal fallback. Availability can depend on nationality and route, and an airline or border decision can still disrupt travel. Confirm any proposed arrival route with the MFA, the relevant Iranian embassy and your transport provider before departure.

Do I need to send a passport copy now?
